Team Teaching stage (Pedagogical artifacts)
a) Pedagogical event Nº 2
I was able to see that Girls (8ºA) in reality did not have good
relationships among themselves, in some cases they had a very
disrespectful manner of talking among their peers. The classroom
environment sometimes was a little hard. Because I had to intervene to
“teach ways of living”, I mean that when I was teaching or checking
activities I was able to hear some swearwords so I had to say: “hey
lady don’t be so rude with your classmate please, don’t do it anymore
you wouldn’t like to be treated in that way”, on the other hand, what
surprised me was that girls were polite to the teacher guide and me.
b) Reflection Nº 2 “Interactions in the classroom”
The majority of these girls come from low social class, where in some
cases the values and principles are not given in a strong way. I think
that girls spend a lot of time out of home, I listened to them talking
in teenager slang but sadly this slang was more like convict slang,
that was for me really frustrating because I don’t looking to blame
but the responsibility of it, for me, are the families. The family has
an important role in the socializing process of their children and
then the family has to show respect and hierarchy to maintain a
control, love and care of the children.
On the other side, the guide teacher had really good control over
them; she gave duties and rights for the girls based on respect and
empathy. She has a strong hand but with love and it was working very
well. When I was in my team teaching stage I tried to do something
similar, not too strict but I told them: You had to respect me as I
respected them, because the idea is not writing negative annotations
every class, so my relationship with them was quite good, and that is
the key to maintain a good and effective environment. Show the
students their rights and duties, as teachers we have to be hard and
affectionate enough, it is a mixture and balance to be able to
maintain good relationships and environment in the classroom
